UPDATED 2/22/2019Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) has completed the final design phase for the replacement of the Jefferson Avenue over Salt River Bridge project. The project will be let in April with construction set to begin May 2019, with completion anticipated near the beginning of October 2019. Once construction begins, Jefferson
will be closed in this area to both vehicle and boat traffic and alternate ways around will be advised.
The design plans approved by MDOT illustrate the overall underclearance of the proposed structure is higher than the existing; in Span 1, the increase is between 6” and 10 1/2”.
Aesthetically speaking, the abutments and pier will have the
simulated stone veneer, decorative bridge lighting, galvanized black painted
3-tube rail with pickets, and the remaining exposed concrete surfaces painted
